Culinary Arts
Culinary Arts I

Prerequisite: None
Site: DCCTC
Students gain entry-level skills for entry-level employment in the food service industry and/or
continue at the local technical college. Prospective students should enjoy working with food and
are willing to study and practice the techniques of cooking. All aspects of the industry and
potential careers, equipment use and upkeep, food preparation, service food storage, ordering,
work simplification and basics are covered in this class. Emphasis will be placed on Serve Safe
(sanitation), kitchen safety, proper use of utensils and equipment and preparing recipes. Lab
experiences offered will simulate commercial food production and service operations. Students
will be required to purchase a chef jacket.
Culinary Arts II
Credits: 2
Prerequisites: Culinary Arts I
Site: DCCTC
The focus on Culinary Arts II training will provide students the skills needed for employment in both level and semi-skilled positions in the
Culinary Arts industry. Students will be prepared to work in restaurants, hotels, deli-bakeries, hospitals, childcare facilities, retirement homes,
schools and colleges. Upon graduation, potential career opportunities include restaurant manager, caterer, chef, baker or dietary aid. Those seeking
post-secondary education are prepared to further programs of study in culinary arts, pastry arts, hospitality management or travel and tourism.
Students may earn credits towards the Associate degree or certificate program at the Culinary Arts Institute at Trident Technical College.
